Autism news: Motivate your child to learn with materials you probably have
April 01, 2024
Greetings!

Picture your child actually enjoying lesson time. Is this a dream or can we make it happen?

Many parents and teachers have a hard time motivating children with autism to learn. And it’s no wonder, because the past failure many kids have experienced can be very discouraging to them.

But what if I told you that you may have materials in your child’s room that you could use to teach your child in a way that is fun and motivating?

When my son was younger, his favorite character was Curious George. His occupational therapist found a Curious George coloring book at the store, and she brought it in to use just for him. Later, his speech therapist found it and used it for a great language activity.

You may already have coloring books for your child, and if you don’t, you can probably find them at your local discount store. Bonus points if you can find some that feature your child’s favorite characters.

Check out this article to learn how our speech therapist used the coloring book to give him practice with listening, answering questions, drawing conclusions, and speaking.

Warm Regards,
